The purpose of this project was for me to really refine and perfect my sculpting skills, as well as working with a range of different brushes, textures and fabric designs within ZBrush to fully create a character from scratch. I wanted to create a concept that I could build from, and produce more of in the future.
Previously I have always worked from copying existing images, working from reference to replicate an already existing look. For my Leonardo sculpt, I wanted to start with a simple ZSphere and nothing but my imagination. I wanted to create an original design, pose and look for the character as much as possible, keeping the retro look of the 90's cartoons with a mix of modern and realistic grit. The idea behind this was to also showcase my skills not only in organic modelling, but in hard surface and cloth design too.
At present, these are the renders before the model goes into texturing, which I plan to do next in either Mari or Substance Painter.
